May I Kiss You? Prologue

I will begin with a story that I have recenty written and am currently not pursuing publication for (Copyright 2010) It is a story that is dear to me and I thought it would be a good place to start. Each day I will put up a bit extra until it is all revealed...no pun intended. So here it begins...


May I Kiss You?


“NO!” Sutton shrieked as the hulking figure stepped out of the shadows and behind Ethen – the love of her existence – and placed a gun to his head. But her plea was in vein. Before she could finish screaming, the deafening shot rang out, and Ethen’s forehead exploded upon her in a torrid rain of blood and flesh.


Lying on the wet, ice-cold pavement, and restrained by two men she could not see, her heart thumped erratically as her breath lodged in her throat. Ethen’s lifeless body plummeted and smacked the ground next to her with a thud that penetrated her own body and reverberated in her ringing ears. She couldn’t scream again. She couldn’t move. Everything inside cringed so fiercely she felt vomit rising in her throat. Black, soulless eyes, like two empty caves set in the nefarious face of a murderer, imprinted into her memory. She knew she’d never forget him as he moved to stand over her, the gun still in his hand.


“Hold still, bitch, and it won’t hurt so bad.”


As soon as he said it, she began screaming and bucking; she would not just give in and watch him kill her. A sudden searing jolt in her chest intercepted her feeble attempt to freedom. Through tear-filled vision, she stared into those two, ominous cavities staring back at her as everything faded to black.


Sutton tried to open her eyes to view the incoherent chaos around her, but it felt like someone was holding them shut. Fighting at the heaviness of her lids, she cracked them just enough to be blinded by white lights disrupted with nebulous figures hovering over her. The screeching hum inside her head lessened a bit and she heard, “She’s crashing….We’re going to lose her….”
